Discover Your Groove 30 Day Challenge - Day 1
Today’s workshop exercise is an assessment of your current life situation.
I want you to spend some time asking yourself the same question I asked myself, ”Is this as good as it gets?”
I’m guessing that you can immediately see some areas of your life where you feel things could be better. But don’t rush this exercise...spend as much time as you need to think about things in your life that could be better. (I recommend writing down what comes to your mind during these exercises so that you don’t feel like you have to remember every thought.)
You may start out identifying broad areas of your life that need improvement. For example, you might see that your health could be better. But don’t stop there...drill down into specifics. For example, maybe improving your physical endurance would make a big difference in your life? Or maybe reducing the pain in your muscles and joints would significantly improve the quality of your life?
And don’t be afraid to take a look at ALL areas of your life. Think about your relationships, your work, your finances...don’t let any area of your life go unexamined.
Once you’ve written down everything you can think of, I want you to divide all the improvements you desire in your life into two categories: things you can change, and things you can’t.
There are some things in your life that you will never be able to change, no matter what you do. For example, you can’t change your genetics, or your history. That’s not to say that it’s irrational to wish that those things were different. I’ve inherited some health challenges that I wish I didn’t have. And there are some very painful things that happened in my past that I wish I could erase but no matter how much I WISH those things could be different, there is nothing I can do the change them.
For the rest of this workshop (and really, the rest of our lives) you need to be 100% focused on those things that you can actually change. As you begin to think about these areas more clearly, you may realize that you actually have much more power and influence than you think.
Spend some time thinking about those areas where you want to bring change, and keep them in your mind as we go through this workshop and keep that list handy, because we’ll need it for tomorrow’s coaching session.
A final thought: Our workshop activity today may feel like a bit of a downer - after all, putting your attention on the painful or difficult areas of your life isn’t easy. That's why you must join me in today's collection of dances. They're hand picked to remind you just how amazing you're supposed to feel. Enjoy!
